Allentown School District School Board of Directors Selects New President & Vice President

Allentown, PA - (December 5, 2024) —The Allentown School District is pleased to announce the election of new leadership of the Allentown School District Board of Directors. The School Board of Directors has selected  Andrene Brown-Nowell as President and & Ms. Audrey Mathison as Vice President. Both leaders bring a wealth of experience, dedication, and vision to their roles, paving the way for continued progress within the district.

“Both President Brown-Nowell and Vice President Mathison are experienced leaders who bring tremendous expertise and unwavering commitment to the Board,” said Superintendent Dr. Carol D. Birks. “I am excited to partner with our School Board of Directors as we continue to forge pathways that empower our students to unlock their full potential, shaping them into leaders and innovators who will drive progress and make enduring contributions to our society. Together, we will work to move the District forward in service to students, staff, and families. Congratulations to both on this well-deserved honor!” 

Meet President Andrene Brown-Nowell: 
President Andrene Brown-Nowell is a proud parent of Allentown School District students and serves as the Executive Director of the Fine Feather Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on empowering children with a focus on mental health and healing through the arts. Additionally, Brown-Nowell is CEO of Fine Fashion Kids, a children’s fashion company. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Brown-Nowell has represented the District on the Board for Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21, showcasing her dedication to fostering collaborative partnerships and advocating for Allentown students.

Meet Vice President Audrey Mathison:
Vice President Audrey Mathison, a retired educator, has a long history of serving Allentown students both in the classroom and on the School Board of Directors. First elected in 2015, she has previously served as Vice President and is the immediate past President. Her passion for education and student success is evident in her work on the Negotiations Committee and as the District’s representative on the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute Joint Operating Committee (LCTI JOC). 

President Brown-Nowell and Vice President Mathison return to serve in their roles for a second consecutive one-year term ending in December 2025. Together with the School Board of Directors, they will work closely with district leadership to implement ASD’s Strategic Plan, focusing on academic excellence, equity, and innovation.
